Everything you need to get the most out of Surf Forecast Menubar.

Surf Forecast Menubar is a macOS menubar application that surfaces real-time surf reports — wave height, wind, tides, and a 9-day forecast — without ever opening a browser tab.

Main features

  • Real-time surf conditions — wave height, wind, and tide info directly from the menubar.
  • Surf forecast — 9-day forecast refreshed every few hours.
  • Interactive charts — visualize swell, wind, and tide for an at-a-glance read.
  • Smart alerts — set thresholds for your spot and receive native macOS notifications when it's firing.
  • Search & auto-locate — search any surf spot worldwide, or auto-detect the nearest one.

Functionality

The app uses several marine-data APIs to fetch and display surf data, surfaced through a compact menubar dropdown. Preferences and per-spot alert configuration live in a standard macOS settings window.

Interactive elements

  • Location input — manual search or automatic spot detection.
  • Alert configuration — per-spot thresholds for wave height, wind, and tide.
  • Spot list — add, reorder, and remove surf spots.

Data visualization

Forecast data is presented through interactive charts and information cards — current conditions, swell components, wind info, and weather info. Use the arrow buttons to step through forecast hours.

Usage

On launch, the app icon appears in the menubar. Click the icon to open the dropdown — your active spot's current conditions and forecast show up immediately. Click Preferences to manage spots, alerts, and units.
